Yannick RIEU
"The greatest poet of Canadian jazzmen." JAZZMAN, Paris
"MACHINATIONS" Album's release (Yannick Rieu)
Recognized as one of the most talented saxophonists on the world scene, notably by the highly regarded Down Beat Magazine in the USA, composer and saxophonist Yannick Rieu has performed around the world where he reaped prizes and accolades. for his records than for his performances on stage.
Yannick Rieu does not leave indifferent. He approaches music from multiple angles through his acoustic and electronic projects, improvisation remaining the cornerstone of his approach. Intense and intuitive musician, the tenor / soprano saxophonist and composer obeys his own philosophy of life, without any compromise: he is a creator in constant musical research who wants to give meaning to his music.
With this new album “MachiNations”, Yannick Rieu shows that the “jazz” niche in which he is identified no longer really holds up. Rieu reaffirms here his openness to other musical genres. This album is distinguished by the multiplicity of musical influences without falling into "patchwork". The different musical fields or inspirations are assimilated and assumed with a lot of maturity. The whole bears the signature of the artist, always in search of originality and balance.
On this new opus, Yannick Rieu surrounds himself with 4 of the most talented musicians of their generation: Samuel Joly on drums and percussions, Rémi-Jean Leblanc on double bass and electric bass, Jérôme Beaulieu on keyboards, piano and François Jalbert on the guitar. To these musicians are added Alexandre Lapointe, Érika Angel and François Lafontaine who complete the training on an ad hoc basis.
“MachiNations” will be physically distributed in 18 countries and regions (Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Japan, United Kingdom, China-Hong Kong-Taiwan-Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia) as well as digital distribution worldwide.

MEDIA RELEASES
JOURNAL DE MONTREAL, Canada
"Le plus grand poète des jazzmen canadiens"
JAZZMAN, France
"...He sounds like a mixture of Tony Malaby or Chris Potter's muscularity with a hint of mid- 60s Sonny Rollins lyricism"
THE JAZZ CLINIC, USA
- "...Contextually neither expressionist nor impressionist, avant-gardist nor neo-conservative, Yannick Rieu instead inhabits a middle ground, where inspiration is motivated by individual concern, a private vision. The choice he has made mark him as a musician of thoughtfull gesture and singular craft."
- "...At the heart of the music was Rieu's tenor saxophone- sphinx-like, taciturn, creating a compression of phrases in wich notes could breath and broaden"
ART LANGUAGE, New York, USA
"...Intensity and integrity are two words that come to mind when talking about Yannick Rieu."
PLANET JAZZ, MONTREAL Canada
